The randomized evidence in this field was not built to answer questions about men specifically. Martens and colleagues recruited thirty adults aged 55–79 of both sexes. The 2024 systematic review of physical-performance trials pooled 437 participants at 48.5% male and 51.5% female.
Those studies were designed to test whether a compound raises NAD+ and shifts general outcome measures, not to detect differences between men and women. Absence of a male-specific finding is therefore absence of a male-specific question, not evidence of no effect.
The practical consequence is that anyone marketing an NAD+ product as engineered for male physiology is going beyond what has been studied. The molecule does not know your sex; the trials did not ask.
There is no human trial evidence that NAD+ or its precursors raise testosterone. If you have arrived here from a product implying otherwise, that implication is not supported.
What the NAD+ literature does support is narrower. Martens and colleagues raised NAD+ in immune cells roughly 60% at 1000mg/day of nicotinamide riboside. Outcome measures across the field have been softer: a 2024 meta-analysis of eight NMN trials found no significant change in metabolic markers, and a performance review described strength and aerobic gains as nonsignificant.
For a man whose actual concern is hormonal, the sequence is bloodwork and a clinician, then the lifestyle levers with real evidence — sleep, resistance training, body composition, alcohol, stress load. NAD+ is not the lever that addresses that problem.
Treat NAD+ as a foundational metabolic input you add after the higher-yield work is already in place, not as a shortcut around it. A man sleeping five hours and training inconsistently will get nothing out of this that he could not get more of elsewhere.
